Mike Kadubek ’86 X1268 Thankful for Lambda Chi Alpha Brotherhood
Alumnus Gives Back to Chi Zeta
Michael “Bucky” Kadubek ’86 X1268 credits Lambda Chi Alpha with teaching him to give back, so it was only natural for him to give back to Chi Zeta—both in the house and in the years to come. “Although I didn’t hold undergraduate office, I helped out the High Epsilon a lot,” Mike recalls. “During my years in the house, there was always something fun or exciting going on. My LXA brothers are still the best group of guys one can imagine. I love them all.”
Mike graduated from the U of I with a bachelor’s in finance and spent his whole career working for (and eventually running) the family business. Founded in 1973, the business worked in welding supplies and gas distribution. Mike worked in all aspects, from sales to serving as president after his father’s passing in 2000, eventually selling the business and retiring in 2016. He now serves on the Chi Zeta Board of Directors and helped plan the new chapter house dedication following the capital campaign’s conclusion. “Chi Zeta gave me so many lifelong friendships, I simply had to give back, both through my donation and my continued service.”
To this day, Mike enjoys running into LXA alumni at Homecoming and hearing their stories. He still has a close group of more than 20 brothers, and they go on trips whenever possible. Mike’s biggest advice to undergraduates: “Live in the house at least two years; that’s where you’ll make some of your strongest friendships. Give to the house, because it always gives back.”
Mike and his wife of nearly 25 years, Karen, live in New Lenox, Ill. They have two daughters and one son: Emily (22), Grace (18), and Matt (20). Matt is in a fraternity at the University of Kentucky, Emily was in a sorority during college, and Grace recently joined a sorority as a freshman. “I can see how they all have benefitted from the Greek system, and I’m glad they gave it a chance!”
In his spare time, Mike enjoys anything outdoors—golf, swimming, yardwork—and visiting LXA brothers. “If I could change anything about my time with Chi Zeta,” Mike says, “I wouldn’t—except perhaps getting even MORE involved!” You can connect with Mike at firstname.lastname@example.org.
